South West College to host Jobs Fair

South West College
SOUTH West College is delighted to be hosting the Fermanagh Jobs and Careers Fair on 29th September. This annual event has become increasingly popular with employers, the general public and also with our own South West College students.
As a Further and Higher Education College, we pride ourselves in our close contacts with local and national employers, whether large businesses or small, even micro, enterprises. The focus of the Jobs and Careers fair is to highlight the wide range of career opportunities in the region and thus give the public the opportunity to speak to employers face to face. SWC staff will also be present to discuss courses that link closely with employers.
These could take the form of Apprenticeships, Higher Level Apprenticeships and Internships, all of which provide employment experience while continuing to study part time at College.
SWC itself is one of the biggest employers in the region. With over 600 full-time and part-time staff, it makes a valuable contribution to the regional and national economy in its own right. Enniskillen campus is one of four SWC campuses and students come not only from the main Fermanagh catchment area but also from Sligo, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim and Donegal.
Our Lecturing staff in SWC are well experienced in their own vocational areas and are mainly qualified practitioners in, for example, Accountancy, Human Resources, Marketing, Computing, Sports Science, Childcare, Engineering and Construction and the ever-popular Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing.
Additionally, being situated in such a popular tourist destination – with many top-of-the-range hotels and restaurants – allows us to offer highly acclaimed qualifications in Hospitality, Tourism and Catering. Indeed, our Curriculum offer is constantly striving to meet the demands of industry and employers.
We engage with local companies on an ongoing basis and these companies play a major role in our Industry Advisory Boards.
One of our proudest and most recent developments is our imminent delivery of ‘top-up’ Honours Degrees in Energy, Environment and Sustainability (QUB), in Computing Systems (UU) and in Sustainable Construction (UU).
Therefore instead of moving to continue studying after Foundation Degree, students can now remain in the south west region and in current jobs and study the Honours Degree part time. We have already been delivering the BSc (Hons) Degree in Business Studies (UU) for over 12 years and this has been highly successful. This is just one of many programmes of study which I have seen grow and develop during my 24 years at SWC Enniskillen.
It has been incredibly rewarding to watch students progress from BTEC Diplomas (A level equivalent) to Higher Level Diplomas and Foundation Degrees through Ulster University and Queens University Belfast. Many of these students remain in the local area and are now senior managers and leaders in large and small businesses. SWC therefore warmly welcomes employers from all sectors and we are certain that “Fermanagh Works” will be a successful and information event for everyone who attends.
“Fermanagh Works,” a Jobs and Careers Fair is open to the public and takes place at South West College, Enniskillen on Thursday 29 September between 12 noon and 3pm. The event is organised by Business in the Community in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, South West College, Balcas, Erneside, Donnelly Motor Group and the Fermanagh Herald.
