Setting goals, either for your own benefit or for the benefit of your company is essential for keeping you motivated and to ensure that you can measure your progress.
The key is to make sure that plan them to be as SMART as possible.
Keep them Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
Specific goals ensure that you know exactly what it is you want in specific detail, and will help to keep you focused.
Make them Measurable. Being able to gauge your success is essential. You will know when you’re progressing and you will know if and when you need to kick things up a gear.
Don’t overshoot, keep your goals Attainable. Yes it’s good to challenge yourself and it’s good to dream big, but be realistic. What can you realistically achieve in 6 months or a year? Don’t set your goals for world domination just yet. Take it slow, baby steps.
Ask yourself if your goals are Realistic. Are you willing to put the work in to achieve whatever it is you’re working towards? Is your idea feasible? If you believe that you can do it, go for it.
Make sure that your goals can be completed in a Timely manner. Set yourself a deadline and make sure that you push yourself to achieve these goals in that time frame.
